Evaluation Four
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
The first technology I used was a Sony HD DV for the filming of our music video. This camera was easy to use, small and very lightweight. This meant our arms didn't get tired and we could take it everywhere with us. The fact it was easy to use was a big thing for me, as I struggle when it comes to technology.

I also used Facebook for communicating and getting feedback.
I set up a Facebook group for my media groups, so that we could communicate outside of college and arrange times for filming. We could also post any ideas we had for filming or planning, this included images (for example; I posted a few ideas for superhero hair and make-up).
I also used Facebook to get feedback on my products from my target audience (Indie Alternative). I found this method of gaining feedback very effective, as my friends were able to comment on any of my product easily. This allowed me to get feedback from my audience, effectively.

I used Slideshare and Prezi to make my work, research and planning more creative. For example for some of my planning I would use SlideShare instead of just writing a normal blog post. This way, my work was displayed much clearer and it looked more creative. It also meant that I could play around with images and where I position them.

Another technology I used was a Nikon camera (print product photos). I also used the camera for taking filming shots, so that we had proof of filming on location etc.
I mainly used my camera for photos for my print products. I already knew how to use the camera as it was mine, so it was easy to use and I was able to get some good quality photos from the various shoots I did.

I used Blogger to record all my movements, planning, research and making of my products. It was helpful as I could always go back and refer to my research to make sure my products fitted the genre etc. I used Blogger to document my every move.
Another technology I used was Photoshop. I used Photoshop to edit photos that I was intending to use on my print products. I would edit my photo's till they were suitable, then on another opened-window of Photoshop, I would insert the images to create either my digi-pak, advert or CD design. I found Photoshop easy to use when it came to editing photos, but when it came to constructing and making my print products, I found the program quite tricky to use. However, I am happy with my finished products.

The final technology I used was Final Cut Express. I used Final Cut Express to edit clips I was going to use in the music video, as well as create the rough-cut and finished music video. I found Final cut Express quite difficult to use at first as I didn't understand why sometimes the sound was being broken up (for example), but I gradually got the hang of it.

Finished Print Package and Video

This is my finished Print Package, including my finished music video.
I feel that all of my print products promote the artist well, as well as link to the genre of Indie Alternative.
I also think that all of my print products link well with the music video as they all contain different sceneries from the video.
After getting feedback from target audience and friends, I have changed many things about my digipak, mainly being what I chose to put in the top right panel. I have tried to make sure that my digi-pak and advert link as much as possible to the video, while being exactly what the target audience want.

Phtoto-Shoot
Here are a few of the shots I took the other day when I had the photo shoot with Ryan.
I chose to do some close ups of Ryan so that it is clear that I'm trying to promote the singer. Promoting the artist is a common convention of a digipak and advert.
I chose to take some photos of the mask because, the masks are a big part of our music videos. This is due to the fact our video is based around superheroes and super-villains and without their masks, heroes and villains would just be ordinary people.
Second Draft of Digipak

By looking at my audience feedback the main problem is still the image in the top right panel. I have decided to use one of the images (of the mask) from my photo shoot with Ryan the other day. I have decided not to take any photos of Ryan with a microphone or guitar, as he is not seen performing with any of these appliances in our video.
First Draft of Magazine Advert

From my audience feedback I can tell that the main problem is the colour scheme. Both Will and Jack said that I need to change my colour scheme, as it's not very eye-catching. I have decided to go out and take some new images with Ryan and one of the superhero masks/costumes from our music video. That way, I may not even need to have a coloured background. I will also add a Twitter/Facebook logo for advertisement purposes. Will also mentioned about a release date, which I think will work better than 'OUT NOW'.
First Draft of Digipak and Feedback

From my audience feedback I can see that the main problem is the top, right image that needs to be changed, as my audience really didn't like it. They all said that the pink/red background didn't fit and they didn't like that. They also think that the image of Ryan looks blurry and out of place. Looking at it now, I agree with them. I'm going to change the top right image, as well as add in key conventions of a digipak, e.g. Barcode, copyright and record label.

Making my Digipak

Above is a screenshot of my progress in making my draft of my digipak. I am using photoshop to edit and input my photos (Above photo of Ryan and the forest scenery) onto my digipak.

This is my finished first attempt at my digipak (below)

Digipak - Font ideas

Here are my font ideas for my digipak and magazine advert. I will post them on Facebook and ask for my friends/peers opinions on which is their favourite.

It is clear from my audience feedback that everyone liked font 9 better than the rest, so that is the font I will be using.
